Xiaomi has officially launched its new Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max in China, bringing a combination of next-generation Snapdragon processors, advanced privacy technology, large batteries and improved rear displays. The new flagship phones were unveiled on September 23, 2026, as Xiaomi’s latest premium smartphone lineup.
One of the biggest upgrades is inside the phones. The Xiaomi 18 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, while the more powerful 18 Pro Max uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6.
This gives Xiaomi two different performance tiers within the Pro lineup. Qualcomm positions the standard Gen 6 around efficiency, while the Extreme version focuses more heavily on peak performance.
Privacy is another major focus of the new series. Both smartphones feature Xiaomi’s Smart Privacy Display, designed to make the screen harder for people nearby to view from the side.
The technology can restrict viewing angles beyond roughly 60 degrees. Xiaomi has also built software controls around the feature, allowing privacy protection to respond to apps, locations, notifications and other situations. The phones can even use the front camera to detect potential onlookers and activate privacy protection.
This could be particularly useful for people who frequently check messages, banking information or other private content in crowded public places.
Xiaomi has also continued its distinctive rear-display design. The 18 Pro features a roughly 2.7-inch rear OLED display, while the 18 Pro Max gets a larger rear OLED panel of around 2.9 inches. Both support 120Hz refresh rates.
The rear screen is more than a decorative panel. Users can use it for widgets, wallpapers, media controls and other functions. It can also act as a preview screen when taking selfies with the main rear cameras, potentially making it easier to capture higher-quality self-portraits using the primary camera system.
Xiaomi is also expanding the functionality of the rear display with AI-related tools and mini-app features.
Photography remains a major part of the Xiaomi 18 Pro series. Both models feature a 200MP main camera and a 200MP periscope telephoto camera, alongside a 50MP ultrawide camera. The system is developed with Leica branding and is aimed at flagship-level photography and zoom capabilities.
The identical camera setup across the Pro and Pro Max means buyers choosing the larger model are not necessarily giving up camera specifications by opting for the smaller phone.
Battery capacity is another standout feature.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro comes with a 7,000mAh battery, while the 18 Pro Max increases capacity to an impressive 8,500mAh. Both models support 100W wired charging according to launch coverage.
The larger battery on the Pro Max is particularly notable for users who spend long hours gaming, recording video, browsing social media or using demanding applications.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro has a 6.4-inch display, while the Pro Max increases the size to 6.9 inches. Both phones feature high-refresh-rate AMOLED panels and Xiaomi advertises peak brightness of up to 4,000 nits.
The combination of high brightness and 120Hz refresh rates is designed to provide smoother scrolling, gaming and video playback while maintaining strong outdoor visibility.
The new smartphones ship with HyperOS 4, Xiaomi’s latest software platform. The series also includes features such as UWB connectivity, IP69 protection and a customizable AI button, adding more functionality beyond the core hardware upgrades.

The Xiaomi 18 Pro series combines several major smartphone trends into one package: new Snapdragon processors, hardware-based privacy technology, huge batteries, 200MP Leica cameras and functional rear displays.
The Pro Max stands apart mainly through its larger display, larger battery and higher-tier Snapdragon chipset, while the standard Pro retains many of the flagship features in a smaller form factor. Xiaomi has confirmed the China launch, with international availability expected to follow, although specific global pricing and release details vary by market.
