The Redmi Note 17 5G is shaping up to be one of the more battery-focused phones in Xiaomi’s Redmi Note lineup. New battery and charging tests show that the phone delivers a major improvement in endurance over its predecessor, although its charging speed could have been faster.
The Redmi Note 17 5G comes with a 7,700mAh silicon-carbon battery, paired with a 6.99-inch 120Hz OLED display and the 4nm Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chipset. Xiaomi also supports 45W wired charging and up to 22.5W wired reverse charging.
In testing, the phone achieved an Active Use Score of close to 20 hours. This represents a major improvement over the Redmi Note 15 5G, with the new model recording roughly a 38% improvement in the test score.
The large battery means that moderate users could potentially get two to three days between charges, depending on screen time, connectivity and other usage patterns.
While the battery is impressive, charging speeds are less remarkable. The Redmi Note 17 5G supports 45W charging, and testing showed that the phone reached around 23% after 15 minutes and 41% after 30 minutes.
A complete charge from empty took approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes. That’s reasonable for a battery this large, but considerably slower than phones equipped with 67W or 100W charging systems.
For comparison, the Poco M8 Pro reached 83% in 30 minutes thanks to its 100W charging technology. The Redmi Note 17 5G therefore prioritizes longer endurance over extremely fast top-ups.
Interestingly, the Redmi Note 17 5G also performed strongly against its Pro sibling in endurance testing. The Redmi Note 17 Pro has a larger 8,340mAh battery, but its endurance was lower in the tested results.
The combination of the large silicon-carbon battery and efficient 4nm Snapdragon chipset appears to help the standard Note 17 5G maintain strong battery performance despite its large 120Hz display.
The battery tests make the Redmi Note 17 5G particularly interesting for users who prioritize endurance. Its 7,700mAh battery and nearly 20-hour Active Use Score provide plenty of capacity for everyday use, while 45W charging ensures that a short charging session can still add a meaningful amount of battery.
The biggest drawback is charging speed: 41% in 30 minutes and around 85 minutes for a full charge is decent, but not class-leading. Overall, the Redmi Note 17 5G appears to focus more on lasting longer between charges than charging extremely quickly.
