Fifteen years after Humsafar first captured the hearts of television audiences, Mahira Khan has taken fans on a nostalgic trip back to one of the most memorable moments of her career.
The actor marked the 15th anniversary of the much-loved drama with a special video shared on Instagram, bringing together her iconic rain twirl as Khirad from Humsafar and a similar moment from her latest drama, Mitti De Baway.
In the anniversary video, Mahira revisits her famous Humsafar character Khirad while also highlighting her new role as Bilqees Bano, affectionately known as Bilo, in Mitti De Baway.
The timing made the celebration even more meaningful. Mitti De Baway began airing around the same time of year that Humsafar premiered 15 years ago.
Sharing an emotional message with her fans, Mahira described them as her “dearest” and “most precious Humsafars.” She reflected on 15 years of her acting journey and expressed gratitude for the characters she has played and the audiences who have remained with her throughout the years.
Based on Farhat Ishtiaq’s novel, Humsafar followed Khirad and Ashar, played by Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan. Their arranged marriage, misunderstandings, separation and eventual reconciliation became one of the most discussed television stories of its time.
The drama became a major success in Pakistan and attracted audiences internationally. It also arrived during a period when Indian and Turkish dramas were attracting significant attention, demonstrating the wide appeal of Pakistani television storytelling.
For Mahira, the role of Khirad became a major career milestone and helped establish her as one of Pakistan’s most recognised television actors. Fawad Khan also gained wider regional recognition following the drama, while director Sarmad Khoosat went on to build an acclaimed career in television and film.
Mahira’s anniversary celebration comes as she is once again appearing on television in Mitti De Baway, where she stars alongside Wahaj Ali. The drama has attracted attention following its premiere and marks another important chapter in her television career.
The anniversary video therefore feels like more than a simple throwback. It connects one of Mahira’s most iconic characters with the character she is playing today, showing how much her career has evolved while reminding fans of the role that helped make her a household name.
For Humsafar fans, the familiar twirl in the rain offers a nostalgic reminder of Khirad and the drama’s enduring place in Pakistani television culture.
After 15 years, Mahira Khan’s journey from Khirad to Bilo continues — and her fans are still watching.
