2027 Honda Civic Type R Adds Performance, Enhances Interior

2027 Honda Civic Type R Adds Performance, Enhances Interior

Honda has updated its high-performance Civic Type R for the 2027 model year, bringing a series of improvements aimed at sharpening driving performance while making the cabin more comfortable and connected.

The refreshed model keeps the familiar Type R formula: a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission. However, Honda has made several changes to the car’s aerodynamics, suspension, braking and interior equipment.

Sharper Performance and Better Cooling

The 2027 Civic Type R receives a redesigned front fascia with a larger grille opening and a deeper front splitter. Honda says the changes improve airflow and engine cooling while increasing front-end downforce.

The suspension has also been recalibrated in the aggressive +R driving mode. The revised damping is designed to improve road-following ability while reducing bouncing and harsh impacts, helping provide greater stability during spirited driving.

Honda has also worked on the brake pedal. A new yoke spring reduces play in the pedal linkage, giving the driver a more direct feel under braking.

The Rev Match system has been improved as well, allowing quicker engine response during downshifts for smoother gear changes.

The Same 315-HP Turbocharged Engine

Under the hood, the 2027 Civic Type R continues with Honda’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It produces 315 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.

The power is sent to the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission, with no automatic option announced for the updated model.

This means Honda has focused the 2027 update on refining the existing performance package rather than increasing engine output.

Heated Seats and a More Premium Cabin

One of the most noticeable changes comes inside the cabin. For the first time in the current Type R generation, the front sport seats are heated.

The seats also receive a revised perforation pattern designed to provide better support during high-performance driving. Honda has added Ultrasuede material to the instrument panel and upper front door panels, giving the interior a more premium appearance while helping reduce reflections on the windshield.

Other interior changes include darker-gray finishes for the aluminum shift knob, door handles and console trim, along with black climate-control and air-vent knobs.

An auto-dimming rearview mirror is now standard as well.

More Technology

Honda is also expanding the Type R’s technology package for 2027.

The car now receives Google built-in, including Google Gemini, Google Maps and Google Play. Alexa is also built in, while two USB-C ports have been added near the wireless charging pad.

Honda has additionally enhanced its Honda Sensing driver-assistance systems, including improvements to pedestrian and bicycle detection, adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance.

New Meteorite Gray Metallic Color

The 2027 Civic Type R also introduces a new Meteorite Gray Metallic exterior color. The updated model continues to offer colors including Boost Blue Pearl, Sonic Gray Pearl and Championship White.

The engine cover has also been redesigned with styling inspired by earlier generations of Honda Type R engines.

Price and Availability

For the U.S. market, Honda lists the 2027 Civic Type R at an MSRP of $48,695, with a total suggested retail price of $49,990. EPA ratings are listed at 22 mpg city, 28 mpg highway and 24 mpg combined.

Honda says the updated Civic Type R is scheduled to arrive at dealerships in October 2026.

The 2027 model represents a refinement rather than a complete redesign. Honda has kept the 315-hp turbocharged engine and six-speed manual transmission while improving cooling, aerodynamics, chassis response, braking feel and everyday comfort. With heated seats, upgraded materials and expanded connectivity joining the performance-focused updates, the latest Type R aims to be both sharper on the road and easier to live with every day.
